The colors you use in your reception will help determine the emotion of your event. 

For instance: Yellow is bright and sunny, blue is cool and refreshing, red is vibrant,
purple is rich and luxurious.  A more sophisticated affair is black and white or ivory and gold. 
To encourage a more fun, playful event try a mix of summer colors.
